Volunteerism is at the heart of Western Digital’s Community Relations program and mission to make a significant impact in the world. Employees are encouraged to come together and get involved in a variety of ways such as:
o Teaching and mentoring disadvantaged students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education
o Helping pack meals to support hunger relief worldwide
o Planting trees and picking up trash to help preserve the environment
When volunteer activities are accomplished as a team, Western Digital employees are not only supporting the organization with their time and efforts, buy they may also earn them additional funding, based on employee engagement.
Helping Relieve Hunger
Western Digital has business locations across the globe, so to unify the vast employee base on our mission to give back, two global volunteer events are organized each year – one around hunger relief in the fall and one around environmental preservation in the spring.
For the inaugural global volunteer event, hundreds of Western Digital employees packed over 1 million meals for hunger relief with the theme to “Do it Together”, benefiting local nonprofits.
“These types of events are important for two reasons,” said Mike Cordano, Western Digital President and COO. “These events allow us to give back to the broader world community, and they bring our company together. It’s a great way for people to meet each other and support an important cause.”
