Extreme speed, high capacity storage.

Built with two 10,000 RPM WD VelociRaptor drives inside, My Book VelociRaptor Duo delivers extreme speed and high capacity to power through high-end video and photo editing, 3D renderings, graphic-intensive and more.

Move data at unprecedented speeds.

The revolutionary Thunderbolt connector provides two channels of up to 10Gb/s transfer rate in both directions, allowing data to travel both ways without compromising bandwidth. This means video files are imported faster, visual effects are rendered in record time and power through your projects.

Daisy chain more drives for more speed.

The dual Thunderbolt ports allow you to daisy chain more drives for more speed and higher capacity. Connect a Thunderbolt display and other Thunderbolt-enabled peripherals to achieve maximum efficiency and productivity.

User-configurable RAID for speed or double-safe data protection.

You can select the RAID mode that's right for you. Choose RAID 0 (striping) for the performance you need when designing or editing graphic-intensive media files. When the drive is set to RAID 1 (mirroring) it provides double-safe data protection by automatically generating a duplicate copy of your data. Set the drive to JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) to use as two individual drives and select between HFS+J or ExFAT per disk. Ideal for running Windows® OS on a Mac®.

Use it as a lightning-fast boot drive.

My Book VelociRaptor Duo can be used as a lightning-fast system boot drive so that while others are still starting up their system, you are already working on your creative masterpiece.

User-serviceable.

Want to replace a drive? Simply open the case and exchange the existing drive. If you fill up a drive, you can simply remove it and replace it with a fresh drive and begin saving even more of your creative life.

WD Drive Utilities

Register your drive, run diagnostics, manage RAID or JBOD modes and more using WD Drive Utilities.

Performance that keeps up with your creativity

Transfer a full-length HD movie in under 30 seconds or thousands of MP3 songs in mere minutes. Thunderbolt™ I/O technology gives you two channels on the same connector with 10 Gb/s of throughput in both directions. Data moves to and from drives up to 20 times faster than with USB 2.0 and up to 12 times faster than with FireWire 800, providing more than enough bandwidth to daisy-chain multiple high-speed drives without using a hub or switch.

One of the most advanced cables ever

Reduce clutter while increasing your productivity. Thunderbolt technology supports daisy chaining multiple devices through a single Thunderbolt connector so you can multi-task at maximum speed without the need for a hub or switch.

The bandwidth you need for maximum data throughput

Connect your Thunderbolt technology-enabled external hard drives, media players, HD displays, media capture and editing systems through a Thunderbolt chain while maintaining maximum throughput. Then enjoy nearly unlimited flexibility and performance in your creative life.

About RAID

RAID is an acronym for Redundant Array of Independent Disks. With RAID enabled on a storage system you can connect two or more drives in the system so they act as one large volume fast drive or set them up as one system drive used to automatically and instantaneously duplicate (or mirror) your data for real-time backup.

Which RAID mode should I use?

 Speed (RAID 0)

Set in high-performance mode (also called striped mode or RAID 0) the storage system gives you the power you need when you're:

  • Designing huge graphics and need a lightning-fast Photoshop scratch space.

  • Editing DV or HD video and want a smooth work flow with no dropped frames.
  • Rendering complex 3D objects or special effects.

  • Driven to be the first geek on your block with a computer so fast it blows your socks off.

 Data protection (RAID 1)

Set the system to data protection mode (also known as mirrored mode or RAID 1) and the capacity is divided in half. Half of the capacity is used to store your data and half is used for a duplicate copy. If one drive goes down your data is protected because it's duplicated.

Examples of the number of photos, songs, videos and any other files that can be stored on a hard drive are provided for illustrative purposes only. Your results will vary based on file size and format, settings, features, software and other factors.

As used for storage capacity, one megabyte (MB) = one million bytes, one gigabyte (GB) = one billion bytes, and one terabyte (TB) = one trillion bytes. Total accessible capacity varies depending on operating environment. As used for buffer or cache, one megabyte (MB) = 1,048,576 bytes. As used for transfer rate or interface, megabyte per second (MB/s) = one million bytes per second, megabit per second (Mb/s) = one million bits per second, and gigabit per second (Gb/s) = one billion bits per second.
